Life-Affirming Health Care

As a medical director, I protect the pregnancy centers that save the lives of both my patients

As an obstetrician/gynecologist, I have a duty to care for both my patients  – my maternal and fetal patient – a mom and her baby.

I learned this the first day of my eight-week clerkship in Obstetrics and Gynecology during my third year of medical school. We were told that we were beginning the most unique clerkship because unlike any other, we would be taking care of two patients at the same time.

Two years later I had chosen Obstetrics and Gynecology for my profession. I was an intern and beginning the four-year journey of my residency. I was told once again that we had chosen the one specialty in medicine that was unique because we cared for two patients at the same time.

This duty to care for both our patients became evident immediately, whether working in the clinic or the hospital. Both patients, mom and baby, were considered as we made clinical decisions.

During that same training, I was asked thousands of questions about the anatomy and physiology of the human body. What I was never asked, however, was this:

“What is the purpose of medicine?”

Maybe I wasn’t asked because the answer is so obvious – practicing medicine is for health, healing, and wholeness. Yet, if this is the obvious purpose of medicine, how is induced abortion, an intervention with the intention of terminating a pregnancy and that does not result in a live birth, fit into the purpose of medicine? How does the direct and intentional killing of my fetal patient fit into the purpose of medicine?

It does not! It did not pre-Roe, during Roe, or post-Roe.

Life-affirming health care in obstetrics/gynecology is an approach that:

  • Focuses on the health of both our patients.
  • Never use death as a therapeutic modality.
  • Protects the lives of both our patients.

Life-affirming health care defines the care women and their unborn children receive free of charge at the 2000-plus pregnancy centers with medical clinics across the United States, including the four in North Carolina where I serve as the medical director.

In the words of Chuck Donovan, “the pregnancy help movement is among the most dramatic stories in the history of American community service. Health care professionals, counselors, and volunteers from every walk of life have composed a symphony of service for women, babies, and families in need.”

The pregnancy center movement is extraordinarily good and extraordinarily powerful. It is because of this, that we are a threat to those that believe induced abortion is health care. Our doors have been open to welcome countless women and their babies over several decades. Those that believe induced abortion is health care are trying to shut these same doors through attacks in academia, the media, and the courtroom.

I refuse to allow that to happen. I founded PinkGlasses Consulting in 2021 to support my work in protecting and strengthening pregnancy centers, advocating for life-affirming medical care, and providing professional development.

Our team at PinkGlasses Consulting is here to journey with you as you provide trusted care for women and their children we serve in our pregnancy centers.

WOMEN ARE STRONG!

Women are incredibly strong. Women are incredibly brave. Women are incredible caregivers.

Women love hard and are natural caregivers and nurturers – just ask our friends.

We refuse to believe the lie that we must destroy our children to be strong. We don’t need your abortions. We need you to journey with us when we have an unplanned pregnancy so that inner strength, inner bravery, and inner instinct to love, care, and nurture can shine through during one of the most vulnerable times in our lives.

Pregnancy centers – thank you for doing just that for the millions of us who have received trusted care from you!
